Amazing Art!

Today after morning tea my class and I made food art on a plate with play-doh, icing and some raisins. We made it about our festival foods but if we couldn't find our food from our festival than we could do any food art on a plate. I did a snail, sun and some grass. For me cause it was easy and sort of hard to make but I still made. I also helped make the play-doh with three other students and I helped our teacher Mrs Ramkalawan make the play -doh the colours we did was green, yellow, blue and red. I'd love to make this again with more colours and try make a much difficult one. I made and chose to make a snail with play-doh because it was an easy one I've thought of. This is my food art I made:

Four years ago Stavros Kyriakides was known for doing fantastic sculptures in south coast  Wellington. When he makes his sculptures he only uses rocks and driftwood. He doesn’t use any glue, wires, or any concrete to  hold them together. His work is distinctive because he doesn’t use anything to make it stick together. People have different opinions like someone might like his sculptures and some people may not. Everybody has different kind of opinions about things.

Fabulous birthday

During the holidays on Thursday night my aunty, mum an
I decided to bake a cake for my cousins sixths birthday,
at my aunt's house. When we bake our cakes we use
abundance of utensils and baking ingredients to bake the
chocolate cake so it can be beautiful and delicious. While we were
baking the chocolate cake we felt keen to try it.

First, my aunty, my mum an I prepared on
Thursday afternoon at my auntie’s house for my cousin's birthday.
We needed to grab all of the utensils we needed to use to bake a
cake, before it was going to be dark. We got it already and placed
it on the bench for later so we could bake the cake. When we
finished getting all the utensils we all felt tired so we fell asleep.

Next, all three of us woke up and started baking the cake,
three o’clock in the morning so it could be ready before the
sunrises. We started by pouring in the ingredients into the bowl,
and started to combined
it together until i become a smooth texture.
We got a tray out and spreaded the flour around it, then
we poured the cake mixture into the tray for it to bake in the oven.

Then, it was ready to be brought out of the oven.
While my mum was bringing the cake out of the oven
the aroma of the cake was delightful.
My mum left it to sit out for it to cool down so when we eat it the
cake doesn’t burn our lips and make our mouth steaming hot.
When it finished cooling down we lay the icing on top of it so the
taste of the cake could be greater than having a plain cake.

Later, it was the next morning so I checked on the cake just in case
someone would eat it. Luckily no one did. While my cousin
was sleeping we gave him a huge "SUPRISE" and a huge birthday
song. When we surprised him he looked like he had a heart attack.

Finally, we all ate the cake and had a little food to eat then we
all had played outside. We played tag then it got boring then
we went to play at the park. We walked all together in a
group so no one was lost, then we approach back home
and that was the end of the day.

Project composting and worm farming

This term my group of Eden, Meliana, La’Shae and I made this project.  Our inquiry investigation question was investigate the different species of worms in New Zealand. First, we used the internet to research our topic.  Then we constructed this project. Eden an I helped pour the the mud / dirt onto the display. Meliana and La’Shae helped with sticking the paper onto the pink paper. We used yellow, pink, white paper and dirt to create it. What was easy? It was easy to staple the papers onto the box. What was difficult? The most difficult part was to stick the white paper on the box because there was a big hole in between. How did this help your learning? What would you like to investigate next? I’d like to investigate how animals were created.

Maths Tessellation

It's a repeat of a pattern, it is also a process of art. I colour the triangle blue, the square green and the hexagon orange. I found this artwork easy I want to try an intricate pattern some other time. Tessellation can be used in many areas, tessellation can be found as a hobby or a origami art. Escher is a person who created tessellation. The tessellation pattern can be repeated with the same colours and shapes.

I had match 68/100 and a picture that showed sixty eight over one hundred.

percentages and just needed to keep playing to understand it more.
Next , I would like to learn equivalent fractions.

Composting and worm farming bokashi

After the lunch bell went we lined up at the courts and listened to
Mr Naidoo tell us about not to throw away our meat and orange peels,
because you can compost it in a different bin with no worms and
will not smell. When I lined up I learnt a new thing which is
you can put meat and orange peels into the composting bin.
First you need to get two buckets with one of them with holes
in it and the other with none, then put the bucket with holes on
top of the one with no holes. Then get some Bokashi and put it
in then put the things that can't go into the composting with worms
in it to the one you've just made.

Hensel and Gretel ninja chicks

This week we revisited writing a summary and taking notes. My teacher read this story to us and we had to write a summary using the ‘W’ words.

Here is my summary:
Once upon a time the chicks Hansel and Gretel came back from ninjutsu and saw some of the animal prints on the ground, and didn’t see their Mama and Papa there. So they went out to find them in the forest and they left some crumbs on the floor to know their way back. Then they found out whos voice that was, they were shocked to know it was the foxes voice. Because when they went inside cornbread they saw the Mama and Papa there they fought the fox and through into the oven. That was their mission day and night for no birdnapping.

Reflection:
I fully understand writing a summary and note taking and practised this when I wrote my speech.

We went to Te Tuhi an art gallery. When we got there our art teacher was Salome she took us to studio 2 to do some 3D collage. We had to tape all three cards together to get it to fold. After doing that we had to get some newspapers and magazines and cut out the things we wanted from it and glue on to our cards. This is what my working and finishing art looks like.

Food for thought

In the morning Adele from heart foundation came to our class to talk to us about our health. She was telling us what to eat and what not to eat.

She started off by telling us about proteins, calcium, vitamins, minerals, fibre, energy, iron, salt, sugar, fat and oil. She also was telling us about junk food and healthy food to eat.

While she was here we did activities like finding the drink that had no sugar in it. So we had to put it in order but most of us got the order wrong. Adele also showed us a container of five teaspoons, that was heaps. We also did one activity were we had a plastic big card with the cereal name on it, we had to find out the energy, fat, sugar, fibre and sodium in it. After we did that activity Adele told us to stand us and do five star jumps and sit back down.

After Adele finished talking to us about keeping healthy she was talking to us about our plate, what to put on our plates and how much to put on our plates. She said “ You should have at least vegetables, carbohydrate and protein on on you plate. ” She also said “ The size of your palm is how much should be on your plate. “

A had a fantastic time with Adele learning how to keep healthy and what to eat to keep healthy. Adele said she will meet us next time on 2 Thursday .
